Why do we need to hydrate our skin in the winters? Tips for hydrating the skin from within and sustaining skin elasticity

Winter is approaching and with it comes a fall in temperatures, lower humidity, chilly winds, rainfall, snowfall and alternating cloudy and sunny weather. It is important to maintain hydration for the skin through skincare and other hydration health practices such as drinking water and eating fruits and veggies.

Hydration is important for the skin, especially in the winters, because our skin is the first outer layer of our body that gets exposed to the atmosphere and the environment, we live in. During the winters, the chilly wind creates makes us feel colder than it is. If the wind is touching our skin constantly it tends to draw out moisture from within our skin and simultaneously kill the healthy outer skin cells, kind of like micro mini frostbites on our pores.

To combat this issue, a special hydration skincare regimen needs to be created during the winter based on your skin type to make sure that the moisture and natural collagen synthesis and cell regeneration is not disturbed, as well as to create a barrier of your skin from the external environment.

Here are some of The Purest Solutions’ special tips to care for your skin this winter.

  1. Choose Gentle Cleansers. Because the windy atmosphere dries out the skin from within, a exfoliating cleanser may further dry out the pores. In such a case using a good moisturizer would be futile as a harsh cleanser will keep clearing healthy skin cells as well.
  2. Exfoliate gently and do not skip. Exfoliation is important because it clears out dead skin cells as well as dirt and impurities that comes from external environment. The key is to use gentle exfoliating ingredients in your cleanser and toner, and massage slowly and not use force while applying.
  3. Apply a hydrating serum. Serums are a way of treating your skin for a specific problem as they have a thinner consistency and higher concentration of the ingredient you want to use. Application of serums with hydrating ingredients such as glycerin, panthenol, ceramides and hyaluronic acid would hydrate your skin for the winters perfectly.
  4. Use SPF in day and moisturizer at night. SPF is the perfect way to solve so many problems, that its just a crime to skip sunscreen. It will hydrate the skin in the day because even though its winter, the will shine throughout the day exposing our skin to harmful UV rays. So, applying SPF in the day and moisturizer in the night is the perfect way to hydrate the skin and protect the skin barrier.
  5. Do not use harsh skincare products. Skincare products with alcohol, parfum and other harsh ingredients cause a lot of irritation to the skin and further dries it out, adding to the existing cold weather problems that your skin might experience. We would recommend using products that are free from alcohol, parfum and paraben to focus on specific ingredients and give our skin the natural detox it deserves.
